How many Osteopathy, Acupuncture or Chinese Herbal treatments will I need?

There is no hard set rule for this. This is much the same for Osteopathy and Acupuncture. For an acute condition it usually takes up to three treatments, but relief is usually felt after the first session.  For more chronic/ long standing conditions, it can of course take longer, but relief is usually experienced within 2 -3 sessions. On longstanding conditions top ups every few months are sometimes needed to reinforce the benefit.

This depends on the condition treated, usually for very stiff, or acutely painful joints , Osteopathic treatment is usually the initial choice.  For pain or long standing Acupuncture may be used, or to increase the effectiveness of the treatment both may be utilized together.  All treatments are done after a full consultation with a patient, and all the pros and cons of proposed treatments are discussed, after this it is the patient who ultimately chooses which way they would like to proceed.

Is Hypnotherapy or CBT the right treatment for me?

No! Treatment is usually pleasant although on occasions painful emotions may be experienced. None of this is unpleasant, and relief is often felt. Tiredness can be sometimes felt after a session, nothing a good sleep can't cure!

Are Osteopathy, Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal treatments painful, and are there any side effects?

After Osteopathy, it is quite common to feel tired, the following day it is not uncommon to feel a bit achy at the affected area, this usually last up to two days and is most common after the first session and this experience is usually not repeated the following time.

Despite the fact that Acupuncture entails the insertion of needles  into the body, the fact is that the needles are very thin, much thinner  than the hollow ones used in injections.  Patients often report that nothing was felt during insertion, but it is common to feel a small amount of ache around a needle, this sensation goes after the needle is withdrawn, as after Osteopathic treatment, it is not uncommon to feel tired afterwards

With Chinese Herbal Medicine, side effects are rare, but occasionally some nausea or stomach bloating can be experienced but this is something that can be easily dealt with at the time.

What is the difference between Chiropractic and Osteopathy?

This is an often asked question; it is difficult to summarise. Actually there is very little difference between these two types of treatment, but at its basic level, Osteopaths tend to do more soft tissue work before the manipulation, and tend to use longer leverage techniques during some of their joint manipulation.
