Osteopathy is the modern scientific
development of ancient techniques of
manipulation in order to help the general
functioning of the body. It is based on the
restoration of abnormal joint mobility by
specific manipulative techniques.
Osteopathy Techniques
On the first
appointment, a diagnosis is made in
which the patient is given a full
structural examination of the
peripheral and vertebral joints,
backed up when necessary by scans, X-rays
and biochemical tests.
|
 |
Treatment is based on the diagnosis
and a variety of techniques are
used:
-
Techniques
of joint manipulation, whereby
joint restrictions are
released.
-
Myofascial
release techniques where soft
tissues are released, and muscle
tension reduced.
-
Movements
to improve the circulation –
both venous and lymphatic.
-
Neural
Stretching to help improve nerve
function and reduce pain
particularly useful in
conditions such as Sciatica.
Treatments
cause very little discomfort. They are normally
repeated at weekly intervals.
